What Medical Condition Causes Severe Abdominal Bloating After Eating Partly Cooked Ham?

After eating partly cooked ham there were severed symptoms of gas and bloating. Pepto bismo helped to take down the bloating, and my doctor sent me for numerous tests and I kept telling him it was the ham. This was many years ago and finally medicine was prescribed to banish the symptoms. I wonder what the prescription was as I don t want to go through the MRI, visit to a kidney specialist, and etc. again. What do you think? Thank you!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* Sudden onset of abdomen pain and bloating after partly cooked ham indicate bacterial infection with an enterotoxigenic strain of E. coli most likely cause.
* However, a stool culture is the best way rather than MRI for the final diagnosis and further discussions of cure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
