What Relieves The Congestion Of Nose And Fever In A 3 Year Old?

My 3yr old woke up today with a runny nose, he had smelly loose bm and has a developing fever. I ve given two treatment of albuterol and a dose of children Motrin earlier. He s resting now but sounds extremely congested and I can feel the fever brewing back up.

Hello. Thank you foe your question. I am sorry your son is not well. Without the benefit of a physical exam, I would say your son's symptoms are due to a cold. We don't have many options with colds in patients of this age. The only thing I would add to what you are already doing is saline nose drops or spray. Most of the children don't like when we administer it to them. But it often loosens the mucous making it easier to blow out of the nose. Additionally, if the fever persists beyond 3 days, an exam by your doctor is warranted.
