What To Do For Swelling Of Knee Accompanied By Hardness, Stiffness And Warm To The Touch?

Around 3 weeks ago my husband was rotating the tires on my car, he knelt down a bit hard on his right knee. His knee swelled so that it looked like an orange but red. Since ten he has ad extreme swelling of the thigh, knee, calf down to his ankle. At night he elevates his leg but the swelling is very bad. He has been to 3 Doctors, first said arthitis, second Doctor did an ultrasound to check for blood clot no clot and the third said swelling of the bursa. The swelling is to te extent if denting and cause the leg to be hot to the touch, hard and stiff. He does have a pink area on the shin. What can we do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
The description of the symptoms suggest arthritis of knee joint along with thrombophlebitis.
He needs few investigations like compleate blood count,Xray knee joint, colour dopler scanning of the full extremity for assessment of the condition as a whole.
An expert's advice should be taken for exact judgement of the condition & management there after.
Thank you.
