What To Do If There Is Reddening Of Skin, Flaking And Peeling Following A Dogbite?

I got a tiny bite wound (one tooth) on my left index finger while playing with my small dog which healed within a few days. Then the skin reddened all around the cut, small blisters formed and there was some swelling, not just around the area of the cut but the entire circumference of the finger (first joint area from the hand.) After two weeks, there's still a lot of reddening (new skin) and the old skin is flaking and peeling. My dog is current on all shots, including rabies. I applied Neosporin for a few days, but now I'm just bandaging the area. Please advise me. Thank you.

Hi,

I can understand your concern for reddening of skin, flaking and peeling following a dogbite.

In my view correlating with the facts you have provided it appears to be simple bacterial infection with healing process so do not worry about any serious possibility in the same.

If yo see any discharge form the same then I suggest you to meet a dermatologist to for proper antibiotic therapy. In between you should wash the area properly and apply an antibiotic cream such as mupirocin or fucidin.

All the best
