What Treatment Is Advisable For The Pain In Right Shoulder Due To Arthritis?

my right shoulder is arthritic and is very painful. I have been to physical therapy which relieved the pain for a short time. I have made an appointment with an orthopedic doctor. What treatment is considered right for this condition. I am 87 years old but in good condition .

hi,
i have read though your question and understood your concern.
-In your condition there is not much to cure as such, but management of pain and preventing the progress of the disease is the mainstay of treatment.
-If I was your physician considering your age(as most of the pain medications may harm your kidney)
I would recomend: dolo-650 thrice daily}x 5days
(this is a relatively safe pain medication)
chymoral forte twice daily }x 5days
myo-MR twice daily}x5days
pan-40 once daily}x5days
DICLOGEL ointment
regular hot fomentation in the shoulder region
would relax your muscles
when the pain is severe keep ice packs(they reduce pain and
inflammation drastically)

for long term relief ultrasound therapy for shoulder (x11 days)
and physiotherapy excerscises work well. these exserscises you can continue
at home. They work very well by improving the tone of your shoulder muscles and decrease the stress on the joint.
I have personally seen many patents showing very good improvement on doing these physiotherapy exerscises everyday even when they had no pain consistently. They are pain free for almost more than a year.

If you want the pain off your shoulder for a period of time.
there is a treatment where they inject a steroid injection into your shoulder and it relieves you of the pain for about a month or two.

Diabetes is commonly asso. with shoulder arthritis, so if u could check your blood sugar if you have not done previously.

Wish U a speedy recovery...!
