MY SON IS 7 MONTHS BORN JAUNDICE,IT WAS DISCOVERED AFTER 4 DAYS AND IT WAS VERY HIGH,HE WAS PUT ON LIGHT BUT IT DID NOT DROP INSTEAD IT GOES UP,BUT AFTER 2 WEEKS HE WAS DISCHARGED BUT THE DOCTOR SAID HE IS ALREADY INFECTED. AFTER 3 MONTHS HE GOT SICK AGAIN AND WAS HOSPITALISED AND HAD THE FOLLOWING SIGNS:HIGH PITCH CRY,PULLING HEAD BACKWARD,SEVERE CONSTIPATION.AT 4 MONTHS THE MUSCLES AND THE NECK BECOME WEEK AND I STARTED PHYSIOTHERAPY BUT STILL HE HAS NOT START SITTING. MY QUESTION IS HOW LONG WILL HE START TO LEARN HOW TO SIT AND THE NECK TO GET CONTROL.MY HR FACTOR IS NEGATIVE
Your son has probably developed kernicterus - the brain damage that accompanies very high jaundice in the newborn period. However, to be sure, he has to be seen by an expert pediatric neurologist. If the diagnosis is indeed kernicterus, there is limited treatment available, consisting of physiotherapy, biofeedback training, ENT and Eye surgeon follow-ups etc.
