Hi,
Welcome to HCM!
I am sorry to hear about your sons' condition.

Fever and cold, (termed as upper respiratory tract infection) is a common condition, specially these days with the change in weather.
It may be viral or bacterial.

In viral infection, only symptomatic treatment is required to reduce fever and cold/cough. Viral infections resolve on their own in 5-7 days.

If a bacterial infection exists, it has to be treated with antibiotics along with symptomatic treatment.
From the dose that you have mentioned, it appears that your son has been prescribed Co-amoxiclav antibiotic, which is a combination of Amoxicillin and Clavunate. It is a potent and very effective antibiotic and will likely cure your sons' infection in few days.

However, unless he is suffering from very serious symptoms, there is no need for any sort of injection. If patient presents with bad symptoms, if is given injectable antibiotics or anti pyretic like paracetamol (to reduce fever). I feel your son must have been given an injectable paracetamol to reduce fever.

Also, kindly make sure that your son completes the entire antibiotic course that he has been prescribed and not leave it in between, even if he gets better. Doing that will ensure that the medicine will be effective for him the next time he has to use it.

Hope the information helps you. Feel free to ask if you have any doubt.

Wishing your son a speedy recovery.
Regards,
Dr. Sridhar Reddy
