What Would Cause Swelling In Hands And Legs On The Left Side?

I have started to wake up in the mornings with swollen hands-the left hand mainly. I am also experiencing pains in my left leg. I am a 27 year old female, 12stone and 5ft 7inches. I exercise twice a week for an hour. Can you offer an explaination? Thanks

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Regarding your concern, I would explain that the swollen limbs could be related to a wrong position during sleeping. Anyway, I recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and some tests:
- complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation
- kidney and liver function tests
- a urine analysis.

A Doppler ultrasound of the leg vessels may be needed, in case all the above tests result normal. You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
