Hello

one of the main side effects of insulin is water retension. This is the reason why patient gain weight of insulin therapy.
But in your son's case there is an established medical condition which is hypoproteinemia.
So i would advice my patient to correct the protein deficiency by parentral nutrition. Once the proteins increases the swelling may subside.
