Hi, am 24 years old Had a medical abortion for a four weekspregnancy Five days after got increasing bleeding and cramps associated with abackache. Have not done an ultrasound yet but is it normal to continue bleeding especially hoping at this time all products could be already out
If after 5 days of medical abortion you have increasing amount of bleeding, you cannot ignore it. It is indicating that there could be incomplete abortion and/or infection in the uterine cavity. Please get ultrasonography done which will give direct visual evidence of the completeness or incompleteness of abortion. If it is incomplete abortion, you need to undergo urgent surgical evacuation of the uterus. The infection will have to be treated by antibiotics.
Any excessive bleeding should be reported to the doctor who prescribed or advised the medical abortion, so please report the prolonged bleeding to your doctor; but it can happen at times and should slowly reduce and subside.
Best wishes.
