my friend went on a tour and had sexual contact with a sexworker just a week ago and is afraid of aids though he says he had safe sex (used condoms ) , i suggested to go for a hiv test. he is worried to face the results. how far the test taken in a weeks time of exposure will be helpful in knowing the accuracy.
Hello,am Dr Mahesh.Diagnosis of HIV can be maid by few weeks at the maximum of 3weeks were in seroconvertion happens.Though in certain hospitals where facility is available,a type of HIV protein can be detected by ELISA method.Or else after 3 weeks of last sexual contact one can go for tridot test. Also would like to mention if used condom then the transmission is almost immpossible as without condom the rate of transmission is less than 1%.That is out of 100 unprotected sexual intercourse(veginal) there is possibility that one will have chance to get infected on any one occaision.HIV is not curable but can be treated and in short it is much like Diabetes that leads to high blood sugar.
