Nuts and dried fruits are rich in calories from fat and must be avoided by people who are having diabetes as they raise blood sugar levels significantly. If your diabetes is well-managed, you can occasionally have nuts but in limited amounts say not more than 3-4 almonds. You can take fruits but control portion size which is important for controlling blood sugar levels. Fruits are good sources of potassium which is helpful in controlling blood pressure. A (200 ml) cup of cut fruit pieces or one medium sized fruit (200 gm ) is enough for a day. You can have apple, guava, melons, pineapple, pomegranate, pear, plums and peaches, citrus fruits etc. Limit intake of banana, sapota, mango, litchi, grapes when your blood sugar is not under control but there is no fruit that needs to be completely avoided. If you can manage your diabetes well by staying physically active throughout the day, then you can have banana, mango etc also occasionally. Controlling portion size of foods and staying active helps to control diabetes better than strictly avoiding any food. Hope you have got my point. Moderation is the key to successful management of diabetes.
