White Spots On Gum, Painful. IS It Because I Do Not Floss?

I woke up Sunday morning with 2 small white spots down on my gums. Closer to my lip, not teeth . It is VERY painful. I am keeping it wet my licking it or drinking. It really hurts so bad. I have no insurance & broke & even called my dentist to see what an exam would cost. It hurts THAT bad. I did not bruch my teeth before bed Saturday night. I don t floss regularly, but I would think it would be closer to the teeth if it was because of that.

Hi,
Thank you for the query.
White painful spots on your gum represent aphthous ulcer. Usually ulcer in any area of the mouth is painful and as you said its near to your lip there is possibility of more pain when you drink or eat as the food comes in contact with the ulcerated area. Take multivitamin tablets and you can apply dentogel local anesthetic before taking food which will reduce the pain . If the pain is unbearable then take an analgesic .
Hope this would help you . Thank you

Hello and Welcome to HCM,

white spots on gums are caused by several reasons :

Fungal infections caused by candida albicans that are often seen on skin surfaces ,sometimes it can be white cystic sacs filled with fluid ,viral infection like herpes, cancer sores ,few white lesions even progress to leukoplakia , i can confirm you only after visual examination so i suggest you to consult a dentist for exact diagnosis and treatment options.

.Mean time topical application of anesthetic and analgesic oral ointments like mucopain gives relief from pain,
.Antioxidants like lycopene tablets two times a day gives best results,

.Avoid smoking , tobacco chewing , alcohol and carbonated drinks,

.Maintain good oral hygiene by using ultrasoft tooth brushes ,tongue cleaners and antiseptic mouth rinse to prevent SUPERinfection.

Take care.

Hi dalew,
White spot on gums can arise due to infection of the associated tooth which spread into periapical area resulting in abscess formation.
Cause of white spot has to be ruled out by a dentist clinically.
If there is decay associated, root canal treatment is indicated.
If there is pocket ,bone loss associated deep scaling and root planning has to be done.
Curettage and drainage of abscess has to be done to drain the pus.
Take complete course of antibiotics.
Use soft interdental toothbrush and dental floss to clean your teeth.
Use warm saline and chlorhexidine mouthrinses to gargle.
Hope this helps.
