Why Am I Not Able To Control The Urge To Urinate?

i am a 58 yo female. i need to urinate urgently and when i make it, it explodes out so fast it gets seat wet and floor. i only go a few ounces but feel empty. i had a total hysterectomy in 1997. the worrisome part is when the urgency happens it causes a mess and it just explodes out of me.

It sounds like you have a condition called urge incontinence. It's kind of like a bladder spasm. This is fairly common in women and older adults. It may be due to a variety of conditions, including a urinary tract infection. The hysterectomy may have weakened the pelvic floor muscles and this may also be part of the problem. You need to see your doctor and be examined. If a cause is determined, then treatment for that cause can be started. If no specific cause is identified, there are
nonspecific treatments that may help. In general, Kegel exercises to strengthen the muscles will be helpful in most situations. Hope this helps.
