Why Am I Falling From Bed?

I fell out of bed last night - so hard, I woke my husband from his sleep. I am a 57 year old woman. There was no drinking of alcohol involved. I do take 50 mg. Lopressor and 100 mg. Elavil at bedtime, which was about 5 hours before falling out of bed. This has happened 4 times in the last 6 months, and never before this time frame. Do you have any idea what may be happening? I am 5 6 and weight 213#. Other than neuropathy in my feet, and the high blood pressure, and being fat, I am in good health, and work full-time.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms.

You are repeatedly falling off the bed during your sleep, and it is happening without your knowledge.

The most important condition to exclude in your case is seizures or epilepsy. In this condition, people lose consciousness for a short while and during that time, you may fall.

We also need to exclude a sleep disorder.

For through evaluation, you would require electroencephalography (EEG) and polysomnography (PSG).

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
