Sorry to hear about ankle.
The possible causes of pain in your ankle are an ankle
sprain or a
fracture of one of the bones circumscribing your ankle, either lower end of the fibula or tibia.
Either way you will require assessment of the ankle by an
orthopaedic surgeon. Instead of putting weight on the leg, a
splint will immobilise the area and reduce your swelling and pain. Do not be fooled by the intensity of pain as one can have a fracture, with lesser degrees of pain, than an ankle sprain, which is supposed to be less painful.
You need to put ice, elevate the leg above the level of the heart, and have an anti-inflammatory for the swelling and pain. Meanwhile an x ray could diagnose the problem, before you start putting weight on the ankle.
Hope this helps
