Hello and welcome to HCM,
I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries.
I understand that you want to know for the cause. However sometimes there are minor
hormonal imbalances in one or two cycles that are self correcting. They may cause strange periods but they do not need treatment.
Also for us it is difficult to comment upon things based on a single period. If there is a pattern in the bleeding then it is easier to clarify things.
Having said all this, there are a few reasons for this kind of scanty period.
Pregnancy and
implantation bleeding are a common cause. The pregnancy test will come positive after at least 1 weeks from the date of period. So if you tested early, then repeat the test after a few days.
Imbalances in thyroid and
prolactin hormone as well as other hormones regulating the menstrual cycle like estrogen,
progesterone, FSH and LH can all cause scanty periods. Their dysfunction can usually be restored by simple measures like regular exercise and healthy diet. So try it for a few months and note your periods before you visit your doctor again.
An
ovarian cyst can also cause delayed or scanty periods. It will need an vaginal examination and
ultrasound for diagnosis.
So as of now, please do not worry. If the urine pregnancy test was done early, repeat it. If it is negative try regular exercise and healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables [ no fat or sugar] for 3 months and note how the periods behave. If they are normal, then there is no worry. Other wise you will need further evaluation.
Hope this was helpful.
Feel free to ask any further queries and I will be happy to help.
Thanks for using HCM.
Have a good day.
