I have had a C-diff infection in the past and have recently been put on Biaxcin 500mg/2X day and Flagyl 250mg/3X day. My stool is always gold colored since my first bout w/C-diff. I told the doctor about my C-diff infection and that the doctor said not to go on antibiotics unless I ABSOLUTELY HAVE to and he gave it to me w/the Flagyl anyway. I ve doubled up on my probiotics and am drinking a Kefir smoothie. Occassionally my stool is brown, usually when I eat beef, but most of the time its a gold color. Thoughts? Oh, I m a 59 year old, overweight, female.
Stool gets gold (yellow) in color if it passages too fast through the intestines or there is no intestinal bacteria which can make yellow brown. Yellow color of the stool is caused by bile. Usually bile is digested by intestinal bacteria so it becomes brown. As you have had an infection and antibiotic treatment, bacterial problem seems most probable. I suggest you to have stool culture test. Please also discuss with your doctor Rifaximine treatment for chronic infection.
Hope this will help. Regards.
