Why Could Repeated Thyroid Test Be Suggested After Diagnosing High Cholesterol Level?

I have had a blood test for possible thyroid problem recently, when I rang clinic I was told I have cholesterol quite high of 4.4 and that I had to return in three months for another thyroid test. I m confused; does this mean I have a thyroid problem , or is it a borderline result or is the retest to confirm the problem ? Thank you

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Increase cholesterol can occur in several conditions like:
-Excess fat intake
-Overweight person
-Metabolic disorders
-Hormonal disorder

In hormonal problem, hypothyroidism can lead to increase cholesterol. In presence of hypothyroidism basal metabolic rate (BMR) of body reduces, which lead to reduction of metabolism of fat in body.

If your clinician suspecting thyroid issue in your case, then they used to order thyroid test at initial assessment and in follow up.

You can also tell me about other associated symptoms to understand case and help you better.

all the best.
