Why Did I Have Period With Bright Red And Bright Orange Copper Colour With Odour?

I am 43 5'1 about 165lbs ...This month my period has been bright red in color and then has gone to a almost bright orange copper color with a odor .... my background on this is that I have heavy periods with clotting and cramping I have had bleeding polyps and surgery to remove most of them 2yrs ago the problem has come back with the long heavy periods and now am waiting for a hestorectomy I am taking ferrous salfate to bring my hemoglobin up as well.. Why is the color bright reddish orangish copper? and what would be the odor?
