Why Do I Feel Exhausted After Taking Depakote?

I am an 18 year old female and weigh about 100 pounds. I am prescribed Depakote Extended Release for migraine prevention. I am supposed to take one 500 mg pill a day. Today I took a total of 10, but the bulk of them were taken about 9 hours ago. I don t really feel anything wrong, except perhaps for exhaustion and my heart beat and breathing feels a bit off. Should I be really concerned? I am not currently taking any other medications.

Hi,

Depakote contains valproic acid which is used to treat certain types of seizures or epilepsy. This medication is an anticonvulsant that works in the brain tissue to stop seizures. It is also used to treat the manic phase of bipolar disorder and helps prevent migraine headaches. Side effects of Depakote are deep or fast breathing, shortness of breath, fast, irregular, pounding or racing heartbeat or pulse, exhaustion, dizziness, weakness, fatigue, tiredness, drowsiness, symptoms of allergic reactions like rashes, itching, swelling of lips, tongue or throat, breathing problems, dizziness etc.

Stop taking this medication abrupt can cause some unpleasant side effects which is known as withdrawal symptoms like headache, sweating, irritability, agitation, unusual behaviour, mood swings, increased anxiety etc. Consult your doctor before stop taking this medication.
