Why Do I Have Light Bleeding For An Extended Period?

I'm on birth control pills and was told by my doctor I could take up to 3 packets in a row, without a period, if I wanted. I did this and am on my second packet, and have been having light bleeding for almost a week now. Is this okay? I'm 18, 5'9, and 150. I've never had any problems with the pill or my period before.
