Why Do I Have Swelling And Soreness Of Lymph Node And Painful Ear?

I have a sharp, shooting pain in my ear whenever I swallow. There is also a very swollen, hard, and sore lymph node behind the same ear. Is there anything over the counter that I can take or do I need to see my dr? Also, since I am 10 weeks pregnant, do I need to see my ob or just my general practitioner?

Welcome in H.C.M.

Regarding your query for swelling and soreness of lymph node and painful ear that you are unable to swallow.

Your medical history favors that you are having acute infection in ear with post aural lymphadenitis. Here acute infection of ear had invlved the anterior wall of external ear canal which is made by jaw joint therefore movement of jaw are painful. The possible infection of ear may be-

1- Furunculosis of ear canal.

2- Otomycosis.

3- Allergic otitis externa with secondary infection.

For better treatment examination of ear is must and ear cleaning is also very impotant for treatment, these all will be possible only by ENT doctor. Till you are waiting for specialist you may take-

a- Tab Paracetamol.

b- Ear drop having antibiotic + anti fungal + analgesic.

c- Keep ear clean and dry don't put oil in ear.
