Why Do I Suffer From Inconsistent Pain In My Tailbone?
Hi, I have suffered an insonsistent pain in my tailbone/lower spine since I was 10. The pain lasts for 20 seconds before subsiding, and will happen at random times. I will get this pain at least twice a month. I've never had children, and never had a bad fall to cause this.
Tail bone pain also known as coccydynia need not necessarily occur due to injury. They can occur due to a variety of non traumatic causes, the most common being repeated sitting on hard surfaces. It could also be part of a more generalised arthritis in the body.
Investigations : 1. Xray of the tail bone 2. Complete arthritis panel blood test. ....focussing on serum uric acid levels .
Treatment : 1. Hot Seitz bath three times daily. 2.applying an air ring below the coccyx tip whenever you sit on hard surface to avoid direct pressure. Avoid sitting on hard surface if you can. 3. A good anti inflammatory like etoricoxib will help .
If all this does not help after 2 weeks of continuous treatment then local infiltration of steroid to the tender part may be an option.
I hope my advice has helped. Good luck.
