Why Do Chills Occur Despite Being In A Warm Environment?

My husband who is 74 years old has a problem with being cold even when sitting in a house with the thermostat set at 71 degrees and wearing heavy clothing including a jacket and gloves. He walked about two miles this afternoon in cold weather. That may have exacerbated the problem. Do you have any suggestions for us as to why this is happening? Dianne ( YYYY@YYYY )

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Chills can be a sign of an illness as well, especially if accompanied by, or followed by fever. So keeping the individual warm will not make a difference in such circumstances. Ao observe other symptoms, and report to a doctor if required.

Best wishes.
