Why does msm supplements give me cysts and small boils?
Ever since I've taken it (the first month of janurary)I have been getting these things but from what I've read, msm Is suppose to treat inflammation not the other way around.I have the brand "MSM 1000mg" from vitamin world which has 120 capsules.It's directions include take one to three capsules daily perferably with meals.I did that for the first week and drifted off a bit when I started noticed a few cysts popping up.I still take it once or sometimes twice a day with another multivitamin pill(hen I took my multivitamin pills(by itself)it helped with my cysts, boils and some scarring,so I though it would help) but I don't know what's wrong with me or the pill.I drink glasses of water from time to time ,could this be the problem?I rarely eat any junkfood except sunflower seeds and a bit of cake(it was my mother's birthday),I eat regular home food (we use sea salt and someimes regular salt)but there are days when I do eat chinese food but not so much.I've stopped exercising this month because my schedule was been hectic and I've been pretty tired/lazy.Should I stop taking the msm pills or should I wait another month?Thank you so much.

MSM has been known recently to elicit allergic responses in a significantly high number of individuals. I suggest you are experiencing either an allergy to MSM or to a filler within the product. The allergy effect is almost immediately after initiation of treatment.
I would suggest that you stop taking this supplement and see if your condition changes. Tf the skin condition improves you have your answer.
I also noticed that your concern over not having enough water is significant but not to your current problem. I do suggest you increase your water intake to 8-10 cups a day or around 2 liters.
So, in summary, discontinue the MSM and observe for two weeks. Come back for follow up or go to your doctors if rash still present in a few days after ceasing the MSM. Best of luck to you, Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
