Why Does A Bruise Change Color?

On my left thumb I have noticed it look like bruise changing in color intensity and often times it is tingles and has pressure. I just read where it could be a hemotoma and should go away on it s own. Then I read about this resulting from an infection. I ve had fever blister s all over the top of my lip for the last 2 weeks and finally going away. I know this is from the herpes virus and have had this almost all my life. Could these be connected or should I be concerned?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Hematoma is formed due to blood collection in soft tissue. Hematoma changes its color with passage of time due to break down of hemoglobin.
Thus, the color change is normal in case of hematoma.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
