Why Does The Medications For Sinus Tachycardia Work For A Few Months And The Heart Rate Spikes Back?

I have sinus tachycardia and have been on different medications for two years. Most recently, verapamil 120 mg/day. They work for a few months, then the heart rate spikes back up and stays over 100 bpms at rest. It is interruptin my life. Cardiologist says nothing about it and do not qualify for an ablation. I m so uncomfortable all the time. Is this life threatening? What can I do now?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,
welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Sinus tachycardia is usually a response to normal physiological situations, such as exercise and an increased sympathetic tone with increased catecholamine release as occur in stress, anxiety and anger.

Being uncomfortable all the time is a symptom of stress and anxiety. You are already under cardiologist treatment, you can also seek psychiatrist opinion to rule out stress and anxiety in your case.

Wish you good health and all the best.
