Hello,
The causes could be several- an enlarged uterus after a pregnancy creates a larger surface area from which bleeding occurs; the hormonal imbalance consequent to pregnancy and delivery creates menstrual irregularities until such time when things settle and stress and general malnutrition including anemia are other causes. If you are not o any contraception, then yes, you should also exclude pregnancy through a blood test and a sonogram and get advice from a specialist. Hope this helps.
