Why I Am Having Unusually Heavy And Blood Clot During Periods?

I m 43 years old. I had my last period about 3 weeks ago and thought I was having another period but I generally don t have periods less than 6 weeks apart. I m bleeding unusually heavy and just passed a huge blood clot. How long should this go on before I see a doctor?
