Why Is Carvedilol Prescribed For An Elderly Person?

After months feeling great and having no issues my doctor insisted I taka carvedilol 3.125 twice daily. I had adverse effects and dropped one daily dose. Still my blood sugar started to elevate and is now out of control. I had open heart surgery 6 years ago 3 bypasses. I have been fighting meds for the past 4 years due to adverse effects. Now I am back on Januvia and insulin and being sent thru the rounds foot doctor dietician eye doctor endocrinology specialist etc etc . I am 66 years old and cant afford this. What happens if I stop taking carvedilol . My blood pressure has been 120 /80 since I quit drinking 20 years ago.

Hello,

Carvedilol is a beta blocker acting on the heart and blood vessels. It is used to treat heart failure, hypertension after a heart attack that has caused your heart not to pump as well. It is advisable to continue it for lifetime rather than stopping thinking that my BP is normal and why should I take it. After stopping, you may have to face so many cardiac issues as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel
