Why Is Etodolac Not Prescribed Any More?

Dear Attn Physician, My Dr. prescribed Etodolac 500mg twice a day. I read on the internet that it was discontinued 7/2014 is this true? And if for so what reasons? I am experiencing a slight difficulty breathing and(really) being parched. I took Benedryl to see if this would counter act what I am experiencing. Any information that you could pass along would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, PmrS.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Etodolac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.
Etodolac is used to treat mild to moderate pain, osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
As use of Etodolac increases your risk of fatal heart attack or stroke, especially if you use it long term or take high doses, or if you have heart disease, it needs to be used with caution.
You need to stop taking Etodolac and seek medical attention if you have any of these serious side effects namely chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, problems with vision or balance.
You can always take alternate and safe medication substitute in its place after consulting your doctor.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
