Why Is Chemotherapy Delayed In Osteosarcoma With Lung And Spine Metastasis?
A female in her forties hasn"t started chemo yet but has delayed her chemo for a few months. She has been taking morphine at home for 3 months. She has osteosarcoma which is all over her lungs and lower spine. Why delay chemo unless doctors told her there is no hope.
Cancer is a difficult condition to treat and osteosarcoma is a bone cancer that proliferates quickly and gets out of control. The fact that there is cancer spread to the lungs shows that the patient is having advanced disease and in in a lot of pain. Chemotherapy might control the cancer progress but cannot cure the patient of the illness.
A patient should be fit enough to accept chemotherapy else there is sufficient risk in giving chemotherapy and that might cause more harm to the patient than intended. There are cases when the patient is unable to tolerate chemotherapy. Please discuss in detail with her treating doctor and provide supportive care and pain relief to her. Please do not worry.
