Why Is His Thigh Swollen And Hard?

My dad fell and broke his hip. He had three pins/screws put in. His thigh is now swollen, hard and very painful. They said his blood was thinned too much and he has a superficial blood clot. It has been several days and doesn t seem to be getting better. What is going on?

Hello,

First thing first. Take an x-ray to check the operated site. If any misplaced implant has happened needs correction. The swelling is common post the pins and screws. It will come down. Do ankle toe movements while leg on the pillow with your dad lying down. Good venous return will help ease the symptoms. The hardness is due to the healing process may gentle kneading massage should help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
