Why Is Metformin Therapy Unable To Control Diarrhoea?

Sir, my father is a type 2 diabetes patient having chronic diarrhoea, was under metformin therapy, later on it was replaced they pescribed Imodium for control of diarrhoea. But even after taking medication for 10 days he is not yet recovered from diarrhoea. Pl provide me suggestions.

The persistent use of the imodium should have helped to resolve the diarrhea unless it is not due to one of the common infections of the GI tract or due to the medication.
If it was related to the metformin, it would have decreased when it was discontinued.

He may need a stool sample to be sent to the lab for analysis. Blood tests may also be needed.
This would help to identify the source of the bacterial.
