Why Is My Child Suffering From Strep Throat And Wet Cough?
My 5 year old son has had a series of Strep throat. He was give Amoxicillin for the first 2 which occured within a month of each other and did not clear. He has had a wet cough for 2 weeks now and when I took him in to see the doctor, they said his oxygen level was 100%, but a throat culture confirmed he had strep throat again. She changed his antibiotic to Cephalaxin, but did say that this should not be coughing the cough, although she could not explain the cough. I'm worried, becase we were remodelling last month and I don't know if he inhaled some old paint dust (possible lead paint), hence the cough.
Regarding the streptococcal sore throat the antibiotic change should depend on the throat swab culture and sensitivity report. I hope that the change in the antibiotic was done on the sensitivity report.
Regarding the cough he is having there could be several causes for that. Further investigations are required depending on the symptoms and physical examination findings. He may require to have blood tests like CBC, CRP, sputum examination, mantoux. Please also convey to your doctor regarding the old paint dust exposure he had.
Continue to ask further queries as required. Hope this helps. Take care.
