Why Is The Antibiotic Suggested To Be Taken After Food?

antibiotics - klacid I have just been prescribed a course of klacid for a cough and the instructions state that it should be taken in the morning after eating. As long as it is taken at the same meal every day is there any reason it cannot be taken at night instead?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM!

Klacin is a brand name for the antibiotic Clarithromycin.

No, there is no such rule that this drug should be taken only during morning hours. It is suggested to be taken after food as they often cause acidity when taken on an empty stomach.

Your treating doctor must have given you a specific time so that you don't forget to take your drug. Remember, it is very important for you to complete your course of antibiotics, even if you feel alright.

You may take it at night if it is comfortable for you.

Hope this information helps. Feel free to ask if you have any doubt.

With warm regards,
Dr. Sridhar
