Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What is Dia ( in bright green markings) on back of blister pak made in India? I bought some in India and they said it was valium. I knew it was valium as a doctor prescribed it there and then I had a pharmacy check it. Why can you not find this in the USA as generic here is terrible. Thank you.
Dia stands for diazepam, the generic for Valium. Valium is prescribed for anxiety and as a muscle relaxant. It is available in the USA as a generic. You must have a prescription for this drug, and it is also a controlled substance, because it is addictive. Generic just means the chemical name; Valium is a brand name. Generic does not mean over-the-counter. Laws vary in different countries, and many drugs that by law in the USA must be prescribed or are controlled are often available over the counter or without prescription because they are not as tightly regulated as the USA. Hope this helps.
