Why My Periods Are Delayed?

I am 4 days late for my period. I have pcos and have lost 20 lbs the past 2 months to help things start back naturally. I had my first natural period (without provera) last month. I was supposed to stsrt on wed. Nothing so far and ive had cramps fatigue and last night i had to get up like 6-7 times to pee without having any drinks. Does this mean i should take a preg. Test? My boyfriend has some sperm problems

Hi,

Usually menstrual cycle with the length of 21 to 35 days can be considered as normal only. It is appreciable that you lost a good amount of weight how to start the cycles naturally, but still it may take some time for complete regularization of the cycles. If you are not on any contraceptive method better to go for a blood test for pregnancy to rule out the possibility.

If the test gives negative result the symptoms you are having could be taken as a part of premenstrual syndrome. During premenstrual syndrome abdominal cramps, fatigue, increased frequency of micturition, etc. can be seen due to the reproductive hormonal fluctuation and pelvic congestion. So, you can wait for a few more days and you may get periods soon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
