Why My Son Have Irregular Pulse Rates?

My son had his pulse checked in health class today,it was irregular. They then had the other nurse check it on two seperate occasions and the result was the same, irregular pulse. What would be a possible cause of this being he is only 14 yrs old and does not participate in sports or strenuous activity. Also he is large for his age, about 5-8 or 5-9 weighing around 150lbs.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
hi,

thanks for your question

having an irregular pulse at 14 is not normal and so you should have this checked out by your MD.

he will likely arrange an EKG which will show the cause of the irregular rhythm.

some irregular heart beats do not require any treatment as they are harmless such as occasional ventricular ectopic beats.

I hope this answers your question.

best wishes
