Why The Prescriptions Of Xolair Directly Delivered To Physician S Office And Cannot Be Filled By Patients?

How can patients get prescriptions for Xolair filled? I am a pharmacist at Phoenix Children s Hospital. We can t order it, our Outpatient Pharmacy cannot order it, and the Pulmonologists/Allergists are upset about it. Does it have to be delivered directly to the physician s office and can you tell me why? Thank you, Millie Wisdom, Pharm.D.

Xolair is a controlled drug given only in resistant cases of asthma, it is a controlled drug which can only be prescribed by physicians. I am unaware of the fact that it is directly delivered to the physicians office.
