Why There Are Uric Acid Crystals In My 3 Years Old Son S Urine?

white particles in 3.5 year old son s urine. Been tested no uti. Told it was uric acid crystals from dehydration. He drinks A LOT of fluid a day (i quite a bit more than other kids his age), but pees infrequently and when he does it s not much. Once when I took a urine sample and it set for a moment it seperated out into particles and urine. The particles took up about 45% of the sample. The best way to describe it would be if you took cold tea and tried to add sugar and the sugar did not dissolve. Should I be concerned?

yes you should be concerned .You describe it well ----it may be simple crystals but it can also mean that your child has a genetic condition called heriditary primary oxaluria .This causes the crystals in the urine and may lead to crystals in kidney and liver .Please arrange for a nephrologist and metabolic specialist to see the child for further work up and management.Type of the crystal is important .
