Why Was My Son Referred To A Hematologist?

My son is 9yr.old, he got blood work done for a up coming surgery. Now it has to be cancel because 2 times it should his level being 3.5 and 3.8. The doctor s want him to see a hematologist. Why does he have to see one and should I really be concerned?
