Will Forteo Shots Be The Reason For Lymphoma?

Hello, My 85 year old mother had been on Forteo shots for two years. She had a large cyst in her saliva gland that had to be removed. Then went for a follow up visit and found a lump under her arm and another on the other side of her neck. The test result said she has a mild case of lymphoma. Does Forteo cause this?

Hi
Thanks for your query.
I appreciate your concern for your beloved mother.

I have gone through her problem described in your query.

Basically used in the treatment of osteoporosis (thinning of the bones), the most common side effects of Forteo include:

Pain at the site of injection, joint pains, fever, body aches, itching or leg cramps. Other less common side effects include headache, constipation and dizziness.

It is unlikely to be the reason for her lymphoma. However, although it is very rare a bone tumor (osteosarcoma) in patients who have been taking Forteo for long duration can occur.

Hope this answers your query.
