Will Bronchiolitis And Difficulty In Breathing Get Cure With Time?
Hi,
My 14 month old baby boy has a sunken chest, he wasn't born with it, but developed it in the first few months of life, along with repeated bouts of bronchiolitis and difficultyin breathing. the hollow has somwhat improved in appearance, and i am just wondering does it go away of its own accord, or is surgery the only option?
Is the sunken chest more on one side or is it in the midline
If it is on one side, it is what is called 'Harrison's sulcus". These do not need surgery adn will improve as the child grows up. In fact by teenage years as the muscle build up, it will cover up the sulcus and I have never had to operate on a harrison sulcus yet in 18 yrs of experience
if it is in the midline, it will be what is called ' pigeon chest' . These also do not need intervention in the majority of children but severe ones will need surgery at a later date.
