Hi,
Irregular bleeding needs to be investigated and then medicines need to be prescribed. I am not clear if the doctor that you visited was a gynecologist.

There are different causes of irregular bleeding and the most common is hormonal imbalances. The other reasons are infection of the genital tract or non cancerous tumors. So if your wife has not been examined for the size of the uterus and any diseases on the genital area, get it done by a gynecologist. Also get an ultrasound of the pelvis done to see for the uterus and ovaries. If everything is OK, it is most likely some hormonal problem.

The desogestral pill is actually a birth control pill but is is also used to help regularize the cycle. So you can use it for 3 months ans see the results. regular exercise and proper sleep are important to correct hormonal disturbances.

Hope this helped.
