Will The Memory Loss Caused By Trileptal Improves After Quitting It?

I am 73 years old woman & have been on Trileptal for over 2 years, due to one seizure which lasted only seconds and never had another. My memory slowly went from bad to worse so I decided to quit taking Trileptal 300mg tablet twice daily, (my doctor wanted me to increase the medication but I said no). It took two months to ween myself off the drug, it has been 3 weeks since I quit taking Trileptal. My concern is... will my memory return or at least improve eventually? I have trouble with remembering how to drive to places that I have been going to for years.
Thank you for your time, Gerry Hargis

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your complaints. First of all, I would like to reassure you that the memory loss caused by taking trileptal (oxcarbazepine) would return to normal over time. So, there is no need to worry.

In the meanwhile, we should also look for alternative causes of memory loss, such as vitamin B12 deficiency, thyroid hormone deficiency, etc.

Please discuss these issues with your neurologist.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.

Best wishes,
