Will Thyroid Disease Affect Fetus During Pregnancy?

hi doctor, i am himkirti. Actualy i am pregnant of 3 months and suffering from thyroid 8.5. doctor has prescribed me thyronorm 50mg. I want to ask you that due to this disease will my baby effect? and after one month i have to chek up again my tsh test.. will i be alright ???

Hello Himkriti,

Good day.
We should keep TSH less than 2.5 during first three months of pregnancy and below 3 during last 6 months of pregnancy. Theoretically text books say that if mother has hypothyroidism in first 3 months, baby's brain growth can be affected. However, dont worry. Recent studies have shown that usually babies will be okay. I have seen many ladies wit hypothyroidism delivering healthy babies.
Relax. you will be alright.
