Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
sir i have question i am planning to get married within 6 month, my fiancee parents both father and mother are deaf and dumb from birth. My fiancees father and his 2 brothers are also deaf and dumb but his other three sisters are perfectly ok and living a normal life, kindly suggest me if i go ahead with the marriage proposal would there be any chances of complications in case of my child.
Hi, thanks for asking. I can understand your concerns. The hearing defect in the family seems to be a genetic defect. I can be transmitted to the offspring as your fiancée may have the carrier gene for the hearing defect. So the possibilities of your child having hearing defect cannot be ruled out. Also there is a possibility that your child may be normal. Going ahead with the marriage or not is your personal decision which as a medical professional cannot comment on. I hope I have helped you. Thank you.
