Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Would Low Heart Rate Cause Difficulty In Losing Weight Due To Metabolism?
I have WPW Syndrome, doc put me on Toprol XL 50mg. My resting HR before medication was between 90 & 120, now it is in the low 60's and I have caught it as low as 58 bpm. I am trying to lose weight and finding it nearly impossible as I've been on the diet for a month now and have lost 2 lbs. I have lowered my caloric intake and started exercising without any real progress. What I am wondering is if the low heart rate could slow my metabolism enough to make it difficult to lose weight? Thanks for your help.

HI Thanks for posting your query to Healthcaremagic.
Low body metabolism can lower the heart rate but not vice versa. So neither the medicines you are taking nor the heart rate is the cause for you not losing your weight .
See exercising has to be a daily routine and not few times a week and also the duration or the intensity of the exercise has to be increased every week or every 2 weeks else you will not burn the calories.
Also consult a good dietician for a proper diet as it is not just calorie restriction but also a healthy diet that is required to lose weight .
Also get tested for Diabetes and Thyroid Problems as these are common causes of weight gain .
Hope this information was useful to you. Any clarifications feel free to ask .
Regards.
